YAAX TEKIT
Tekit is a community known for making typical regional costumes such as guayaberas, filipinas, dresses, and embroidered blouses. The community is located south of the city of Mérida and close to the Mayapán archaeological site. The tourism project began in 2015 with the arrival of some groups of tourists from France interested in learning about the daily activities in the village. In 2017, the cooperative society was formed by 6 partners (3 men and 3 women).
The cooperative develops activities together with local people who share with visitors the economic activities they develop, benefiting the more than 50 people involved in the activities.
Through the community tours, you can enter into the local life of this village to learn about the life of the Mayas of yesterday and today. Bake sweet bread at the local bakery, visit a guayabera factory, learn about vegetable and melipona bee production in a traditional Mayan solar, and savor seasonal fruit in a citrus grove.
After the community tours, you can cool off in the local cenote, visit the main church, or shop for typical Yucatecan clothing in the many stores surrounding the village.
