PUJULÁ
ALDEA MAYA VIVA
Currently, development and modernization threaten the conservation of some artisan practices; with this in mind, in 2012, Don Sixto and his family undertook the construction of Pujulá Aldea Maya as a space that allows the dissemination and conservation of Mayan culture.
Faced with the impossibility of finding someone who knows how to apply traditional Maya techniques to build a palapa, the cooperative realized the need to rescue many of the traditions of their community that were in danger of disappearing, so they decided to create this project.
The cooperative offers traditional Yucatecan dishes such as poc chuc and sopa de lima (lime soup), in addition to rescuing the traditional practices and knowledge of the Maya people. The community tours offer the opportunity to learn about the manufacturing process of various kitchen utensils and household tools made from bejuco and sosquil, wooden bowls, as well as the production of vegetables in kanché (vegetable garden).
